Do you want to research the impact of technology-driven marketing on value creation for customers and companies? At the ‘Marketing and Customer Experience’ research group, you will have the opportunity to lead the research line ‘Humane Marketing Technology,’ focusing on designing and implementing marketing technology in a way that is perceived as humane and meaningful.

The rise of digital technologies creates enormous opportunities for organizations to enhance customer experience. The increasing availability and application of data are seen as the most impactful digital developments for the coming years. AI plays a crucial role in this, but its application raises many questions regarding the frameworks for responsible design, development, and application. The impact of these technologies on consumers, customer experience, and the relationship between organizations and customers is still insufficiently clear.

What will you do at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht?

As a senior researcher, you will focus your efforts on leading applied research projects. You will spend most of your time as a researcher at the Digital Business & Media Knowledge Center within the Marketing & Customer Experience research group. You will be part of the HU team New Economic Research and Education (NEOO), a group of experienced, passionate researchers and education professionals with the ambition to develop and anchor valuable knowledge across traditional research disciplines and programs.

Your responsibilities:

  • Conducting, supervising, and publishing research on the use of digital technologies in the marketing field;
  • Contributing to the vision of the Marketing & Customer Experience research group and acting as a leader and expert in the ‘Humane Marketing Technology’ research line;
  • Building partnerships with companies and universities to set up joint research and education projects;
  • Playing a role in integrating the latest research results on AI and digital technologies into current curricula and ensuring continuous innovation of the curriculum on the theme of marketing technology.

  • We offer a one-year employment contract (D3) with a scope of 0.6 FTE;
  • Depending on your knowledge and skills, your responsibilities and tasks will be determined. Based on this, you will be classified in scale 13, with a maximum salary of € 7207,- for a full-time position;
  • In addition, you will receive an 8% holiday allowance and a guaranteed year-end bonus of 8.3%;
  • A contribution to the health insurance premium of € 300.00 gross per year for a full-time position;

  • For a full-time position, the possibility of more than 10 weeks of leave per year;

Your profile:

We want you to be successful in your new job. We would like to receive your motivation in a form that is most meaningful and convincing to you. Think of a video, presentation, portfolio, motivation letter, or another way that suits you and convinces us. You do not need to have prior teaching experience. Once you start with us, you will get the possibility to obtain your Basic Qualification Examination (BKE) at our expense. In your CV, we would like to see at least the following:

  • Completed PhD preferably in the economic domain (e.g., marketing, consumer behavior, communication, business administration). Relevant other domains will also be considered combined with the appropriate research experience;
  • Knowledge and experience in (digital) marketing and/or consumer behavior, demonstrable affinity with marketing technology;
  • Demonstrable several years of experience in conducting research and ideally leading a research group;
  • Affinity with education;
  • You are fluent in English and you intent to learn Dutch. Besides the knowledge and experience you possess, we find it equally important who you are. When we talk to you, it will be clear from your examples that you:
    • Have leadership qualities, both in terms of content and team management;
    • Are socially sensitive and entrepreneurial in acquiring new research assignments;
    • Have strategic insight; as a senior researcher, you will carry the research line(s) for which you are responsible.

The central challenge for today’s and tomorrow’s Marketing and Customer Experience (MCX) professional is described as follows: “How do we realize valuable interactions between people and brands, for broad prosperity?”
