Admission

The Master Next Level Engineering program is designed for ambitious technical Bachelors from several backgrounds such as: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering & Management, Built Environment or ICT. Students of these or similar programmes are eligible to start the MNLE after successful completion of the admission procedure.

To be admissible for the master you need a relevant bachelor degree in a technical domain, such as:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering & Management
  • Built Environment
  • ICT
  • Aviation

With other technical degrees and a high motivation for this master degree, please contact us to discuss the possibilities.

All international students must prove that they have good writing and conversation skills in English. For this Master's programme we accept a 6.5 on IELTS (English Language Test), with at least a 6.5 for speaking and no sub score under 6.0. We also accept the following English language tests: TOEFL, TOEIC and Cambridge English. For Chinese students, it is obligatory to present an IELTS test result.

During the application procedure we will also review your English skills by means of your motivation letter and during the interview.

Some international students are granted exemption from the English language test:

  • Students who have obtained a Bachelor's diploma in the UK, US, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia.
  • Students with an accredited international American or British Bachelor's Diploma.
  • Based on your high school or Bachelor's diploma you may be granted exemption, contact us by e-mail if you have questions regarding your English proficiency.

Admission Procedure

The admission consists of several parts. Below we give you a bit more information but you will receive the specific information and details on how to prepare once you have applied via Studielink.

  • A motivation assignment
    The motivation assignment is an application letter for a job. In this letter you will explain how the master program prepared you to be the perfect candidate for this job. You will receive specific information for it, so don’t start writing it before you have received the assignment.
  • An analytical test
    This test is meant to find out if you have the required basic mathematical and statistics knowledge for this Master. You will receive study material to prepare for this online test.
  • An intake interview
    In this interview we intend to see the whole picture: what is your motivation, and do you have the necessary skills? It is also a possibility for you to ask questions. After all the required parts of the Admission Procedure we will give you an advice to apply or not to apply for this master.

The deadlines for applying are: Non-EU/EEA: 30 April, EU/EEA: 31 July, Dutch: 31 August.

The two-day introduction in the last week of August is mandatory. During this introduction you will get to know the team of teachers and your fellow students. Also, you will learn more about studying at the Hogeschool Utrecht, the systems and the program. Dates will be announced in due time.
